SCIENCE WEEK

Hello everyone!

Sirius College Primary School students celebrated National Science Week in style this year

August is always a fabulous month in the world of Science where the entire week is dedicated to this awesome phenomena. The activities planned for our lovely children aimed to continue to inspire the love of learning, and most importantly, the passion for Science! Every learner was involved in activities as we focused on experiments and sustainability, in support of the theme for National Science Week in 2017.

Foundation and Grade 1 students were involved in simple science experiments- a fun way to be introduced to basic scientific concepts. The children linked their experiments with their procedural writing tasks for literacy.

During our Science Spectacular Demonstrations, older students demonstrated a number of different science experiments to the younger children. The Grade 2 children from Eastmeadows Campus visited Dallas Campus, where they witnessed the grade 6 children put on a show full of fascinating hands on experiments. The grade 2 children were amazed to learn interesting science and technology facts by experimenting with different materials that react in surprising ways.

Year 2 and 3’s focused on sustainability through their experiments- they were able to ‘reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink’ their actions in the areas of waste, water, energy and air. The aim was to help save our planet by moving towards a more sustainable future!

On Nude Food Day, the grade 4 children helped reducelitter at Sirius College by bringing a lunch that is free of plastic wrap, packets, and paper. Awareness was raised surrounding the amount of packaging we put in our bins on a daily basis. The results were impressive!

Children of grade 5 worked hard to make 3D models of an animal or a plant cell, which they shared with the junior school.

On Mad Science Dress Up Day, the children had some fun by being creative! The children made great efforts and dressed up in amazing science based outfits! It was most certainly a successful ending to a successful Science Week!

National Science Week activities was loads of fun for the students, focused on quality science outcomes, supported our science curriculum, encouraged the children to try more science and raise the general profile of science within the community. Thank you to all the students, teachers and families for their spectacular science enthusiasm!
